Advent Devotional | Day 26 | The Shepherds' Proclamation

Luke 2:1-20
When we receive good news, what do we do with it? Our tendency is to share this joy with others. In Luke’s account of Jesus’ birth, shepherds were working the evening shift when they were startlingly interrupted by this special angelic news brief: “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is Christ the Lord. This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger” (vv. 10-12).

This good news piqued the shepherds’ interest so much that they rushed to see this new baby. On arriving in Bethlehem, the shepherds disclose to Mary, Joseph and all their visitors concerning the angel’s testimony about this child. And, after beholding him, the shepherds “returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things they had heard and seen, which were just as they had been told” (v. 20).

Like these shepherds, may we fearlessly and urgently proclaim this good news so that those who hear it may praise and glorify God for this precious baby who is Christ Jesus—the Savior and Lord.
