Advent Devotional | Day 19 | Glorious Mystery

John 1:14; Psalm 46:10

Be still and know that I am God….
The Word was made flesh and lived among us….
Our world’s brightest scientists struggle to understand the origin of the universe, and its deepest philosophers argue about being and knowing. Meanwhile we theologians ponder many aspects of the Advent story. Finally we’re reduced to the childlike minds Jesus often encouraged sitting or kneeling in awe before the mystery of the Incarnation.

The Almighty God no one can see…the Holy Trinity which none of us can fully comprehend…the Word creating the unfathomable universe…the Word being with the Father…the Word being God, with the Father and the Holy Spirit….It is, indeed, all beyond us and yet with us. And now, in these days before Christmas, we consider the Lamb of God, the mighty King…in fetal state!

God’s suggestion: “Be still and know that I am God.” Our pondering of the mystery concludes: The Word became flesh and lived among us, and we have seen his glory, the glory of the Father’s only Son.” The mystery of the blessed Incarnation.
