Advent Devotional | Day 2 | Jesus, Lamb of God

John 1:29-34
In 1 Corinthians 15:1-14, the Apostle Paul articulates the essence of the gospel by linking it to the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Integral to that is the Apostle’s declaration “that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures” (1 Cor 15:3). Here, Paul echoes the words of John the Baptist as Jesus approached him. “Look, the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world.”

During the Advent season as we prepare to celebrate the incarnation of Jesus Christ, the very Word of God who “became flesh and dwelt among us” (John 1:14), we are reminded that Jesus comes to earth not only to demonstrate to human beings what God is like, but to die for our sins. Through Jesus Christ, God takes on human form. Through his death, our sins can be forgiven. And in his resurrection, we see the first-fruits of what is promised to all of God’s people—that nothing, not even death, can separate us from fellowship with our risen Lord and Savior.

We enter the Advent season—a time of joy, a time of waiting, a time of reflection. With all of God’s people, we remember the coming of Jesus Christ to earth. And we anticipate his return with the fulfillment of all that we have been promised by our risen Lord.

Think about your schedule for the next several weeks and mark out time for reading Scripture and reflecting on the good news that through Jesus Christ, God has taken the initiative so that we might have life in relationship with the Triune God.
