Day 18
Doug Stuart
Luke 1:14–17

If such great predictions can be made by the angel about the introducer of the Messiah, what greatness must be manifest in the Messiah himself!

If one unworthy even to handle the shoes of the Lord (Luke 3:16) is thus described, what worthiness must be found in the Lord to whom the shoes—and all else—belong!

If the precursor of the King can have such an effect on people and circumstances, what an effect the King himself must have!

If the son of Zechariah, preparer of the way for the Son of God, could deeply affect lives by what he taught people to expect, how much more will that Son of God transform people’s lives, making them sons of God, reborn and eternal, through his life, death and resurrection!

John’s birth was a small part of a great divine rescue plan, important enough to warrant an angelic announcement. Christ’s arrival, announced by many angels, began the culmination of that plan. Conceived before the creation of the earth (Rev. 13:8), foreshadowed in the Old Testament, brought to fruition via God’s faithful Son, it is the greatest rescue plan ever.

It takes us from death to life.
