DIVERSITY AND EXPLORATIONS PROGRAM
Three days. Infinite possibilities. And it's on us.
November 4-6, 2014

Dear HDS Alumni,
I am Prudence Goss and it is with gratitude and enthusiasm that I join this special community as the Director of Admissions. I hope to have the opportunity to connect with many of you.

Last week, we welcomed approximately 130 new students to Harvard Divinity School. Together, they will go on to advance understanding in our religiously complex world, and to impact diverse communities through their work and leadership in various types of ministry, social service careers, academia and other professions, just as you and other HDS alumni are doing today.

Recruiting, admitting and yielding a diverse class to HDS is one of my top priorities. In 2007, the Office of Admissions created Diversity and Explorations (DivEx), a selective, 3-day program designed to attract talented undergraduates whose backgrounds demonstrate a commitment to issues of diversity, social justice, and the fields of religion, theology and ministry.

As a graduate of HDS, you have the unique ability and perspective to help us identify, attract, and recruit exemplary students every year. In this spirit, I invite you to help us reach talented undergraduates who are underrepresented in the study of religion.

Please consider sharing information about DivEx with your colleagues and networks. You can help the Office of Admissions in the following ways:
Send this link to the DivEx brochure to a friend, faculty member, community leader, or colleague
Watch and share this 2-minute video of past DivEx participants reflecting on their experience
Share this form to refer a student to DivEx, and we will contact him/her directly
Share the DivEX link on social media like Facebook or Twitter

In referring candidates, including those who may not think to consider Harvard, you help ensure that the most talented students, regardless of background, will attend HDS.

In addition to referring candidates for the DivEx program, we welcome referrals of prospective applicants who are more advanced in their discernment process. Once you have submitted the referral form, we will send the individual a personalized email describing how he or she can learn more about HDS. Prospective students may be particularly interested in attending Theological Education Day on Wednesday, November 5th. During this day-long open house, participants can visit classes, meet with faculty, attend panel discussions, and enjoy great food with current HDS students. Registration is available via our online registration form. If you know of interested prospective students who can travel to Cambridge, please pass this information on to them.

If traveling to campus on November 5th is not possible, prospective students can also Connect with HDS at a different time. Our student admissions representatives help with arrangements for individual visits. HDS student admissions representatives can be reached at ask_students@hds.harvard.edu.

Finally, our online application as well as information about How to Apply is available on our website. Even those who are not planning to apply to graduate school this year may find it useful for future planning.

I hope that you will continue to encourage talented colleagues, students, friends, and others to consider HDS. If you have any questions or ideas for recruitment and outreach, feel free to contact us. I appreciate your continued support of HDS.

We look forward to hearing from you and connecting with the prospective students you refer!

Best Wishes,
